It is COLD!

Good Day!

And it is, if you like to run in the cold. For the runners in the 2nd annual Dust Bowl Series of Marathons, I hope they do. The third leg of the series in Lamar, CO kicks off in about 3 minutes, and it is a balmy 22 degrees with a windchill of 12. It will be windy in the dust bowl today, something that doesn't come as a shock, so that is another element the runners will have to deal with. Fortunately, most of the course in Lamar is protected from the wind, so hopefully it won't be too bad. Also good news, the sun will be shining and temps will be rising as the miles pile up. I hope it does get up into the 50's with sun, that would be a big help to the runners, and all the great volunteers.

When they do cross that finish line, I know they will be happy to get out of that wind and head to  Clayton, NM. It is a gorgeous drive, the best on the series. The 5th and final marathon takes place in Clayton Lake State Park. It is the most scenic of all the runs, and the most brutal course. Runners will be glad to cross the finish line there, both to signify the end of the race and the end of the series.

Tomorrow I will give a wrap up of this year's Dust Bowl Series. Until then,

Happy Running to you!

Name Change for my New (old) Blog!

Welcome to the new RunnerManWrites Blog! (Formerly BaseballWonders) I changed the name to reflect the broad range of activities I'm involved in and will be writing about. Welcome aboard!

In the past I've written primarily about my baseball books, and everything associated with that. I'm wearing many other hats these days, and wanted to change this blog so I incorporate all my adventures, starting with my marathoning. I started running in 2010, and now just published my first marathon related book, "We're All in This Together: 5 Marathons, 5 Days, 5 States-Running across America's Dust Bowl." It's the story of 162 runners that converged on the dust bowl area (Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, and New Mexico) in March 2013 to run 5 marathons in 5 days in 5 different states. Of course that has been done before, but not a series organized by the same race director. Clint Burleson of Mainly Marathons was the man behind this madness, and he pulled it off without a hitch. Over the course of the week, this group of runners bonded and formed a very close, wacky, slightly insane family. I put our story into words, and I'm very happy how it came out!

If you are interested, you can find it on Amazon, SmashWords, my website, or any other online retailer. My website is www.5in5in5.com Thanks for checking it out!

If you have your own blog or website, and would like to post a review of the book, I will send you a free copy (in PDF) so you can do so. I would greatly appreciate it!

That is all for this initial post, next time I will talk about the 2014 Dust Bowl series that is happening right now! Today is day 1 in Texas. Good Luck to all my fellow runners, you will have the time of your life!

Happy Running to you,
George
